Swings: The First Time

Many are the times that my baby and I have stood on the fringes of the park, watching the children play. On a recent occasion we noticed a little girl, who looked no older than Cave Baby, having a go on the swings. Upon further enquiry it emerged that the girl was indeed the same age as my little one. And since the aforementioned little girl appeared to having such a lovely time, we seized the day and Cave Baby was mounted upon the swings for her first ever taste of adrenalin.

And what a first taste it was. There were peals of spontaneous laughter, more glorious to a mother's ears than a skylark's song. There was joyous kicking of the legs and shaking of the arms, her whole body almost convulsing with the uncontainable excitement of it all. It was, in short, a success. Hurray for the swings!

Delightful!! One of the first things I'm dying to do for the little one when the new house is completed, is put up a swing on the big walnut tree. Swinging is such a wonderfully simple joy.

My 2 have always loved the swings. More recently my 3 year old has progressed to the adult swings. Glad Cave Baby had fun :)

My little one was in the swings as soon as she could sit upright on her own - her Daddy insisted (another ploy so he could play on the playground too!). She absolutely adored it. As you so eloquently say, there's nothing better.

It's so lovely to see them when they discover this delight isn't it? And their sense of wonder and physical freedom as they swing is a joy.

Awww, that's so sweet. One of my kids would ONLY go to sleep in a swing until about two years of age, so we would be out at the park until midnight, swinging. Finally we got a back yard playset. I could have married it.

Deb - your story is hilarious to read but I bet it wasn't so funny at the time! Thanks for the comments, everyone.
